챗GPT 사용법 — 첫 대화부터 웹 검색·파일 업로드·음성까지 (챗지피티·CHATGPT 사용법 순서대로)

챗지피티는 회원가입 화면에서 막히지 않습니다. 지원되는 지역에서는 계정 없이도 한번 써 볼 수 있습니다.1

문제는 그다음입니다. 채팅창에 질문만 던지다 보면 웹 검색·파일 업로드·음성처럼 이미 들어 있는 기능을 끝까지 모른 채 지나가게 됩니다.

이 글에서는 챗GPT를 여는 경로부터 첫 대화, 한국어 설정, 웹 검색, 파일과 이미지, 음성, 맞춤 지침과 메모리, 대화 기록 관리까지 실제 조작 순서대로 알아보겠습니다. 아래 내용은 OpenAI 공식 고객센터와 다운로드 페이지에 적힌 안내를 기준으로 정리했습니다.

요금제별로 무엇이 열리고 막히는지는 챗GPT 무료 이용 범위와 요금제 문서에 따로 정리해 두었습니다.

챗지피티를 여는 세 가지 경로

첫 번째는 웹입니다. 브라우저에서 chatgpt.com에 접속하면 되고, 지원 지역에서는 계정 없이도 시도해 볼 수 있습니다.1

두 번째는 모바일 앱입니다. 공식 안내는 iOS와 Android 앱을 함께 제공한다고 밝히고 있습니다.2

세 번째는 데스크톱 앱입니다. macOS와 Windows용 앱이 따로 있고, 이메일·스크린샷·파일처럼 지금 화면에 띄워 둔 것을 두고 대화하는 용도로 안내됩니다.3

세 경로 중 무엇으로 시작할지는 목적이 갈라 줍니다. 잠깐 물어볼 일이면 웹이 빠르고, 화면의 자료를 계속 물고 가야 하면 데스크톱 앱이 편합니다.

다만 데스크톱 앱의 업무 모드는 무료 플랜에서 열리지 않습니다. 2026년 9월 기준 공식 다운로드 페이지는 업무 모드를 Plus·Pro·Business·Enterprise 플랜으로 이용할 수 있다고 적고 있습니다.4

첫 대화를 시작하는 순서

절차 자체는 세 단계입니다. 챗GPT를 열고, 메시지 상자에 필요한 내용을 입력하고, 전송하면 됩니다.5

주제를 바꿀 때는 새 채팅(New chat)을 고릅니다. 같은 창에 계속 이어 쓰면 앞의 맥락이 섞여 답이 흐려집니다.

반대로 같은 주제라면 굳이 새 창을 열지 않는 편이 낫습니다. 한 대화 안에서는 앞서 나눈 맥락을 기억하므로 후속 질문을 이어 붙이는 쪽이 정확합니다.6

메시지 한도는 고정된 숫자가 아닙니다. 공식 FAQ는 한도가 플랜과 모델에 따라 다르고 성능 유지를 위해 시간이 지나며 바뀔 수 있다고 안내합니다.7

모델 이름도 마찬가지로 고정이 아닙니다. OpenAI는 새 모델을 추가하고 오래된 모델을 정기적으로 퇴역시킨다고 밝히고 있습니다.8

그래서 특정 모델 이름에 익숙해질 필요는 크지 않습니다. 모델이 바뀌어도 이전 대화의 맥락은 새 모델로 이어질 수 있다고 안내되어 있습니다.9

한국어 설정은 로그인해야 열린다

챗지피티는 브라우저나 기기의 언어를 자동으로 감지해 화면 언어를 맞춥니다.10 한국어 환경이라면 대개 별도 설정 없이 한국어로 뜹니다.

문제가 되는 건 영어로 뜨는 경우입니다. 여기에 한 가지 함정이 있는데요.

언어 설정은 로그인한 상태에서만 바꿀 수 있습니다.11 계정 없이 쓰는 중이라면 챗GPT 설정이 아니라 브라우저 언어를 바꿔야 합니다.

로그인한 경우 웹에서는 프로필 아이콘 > 설정 > 일반 > 언어 순서로 들어가 고릅니다.12

모바일 앱은 사이드바에서 프로필 아이콘을 누른 뒤 App 항목의 Language를 선택합니다.13

지원 언어 목록에는 한국어가 포함되어 있습니다.14 목록에 없는 언어라면 자동 감지도 적용되지 않습니다.

최신 정보가 필요할 때 — 웹 검색 켜기

웹 검색은 유료 전용 기능이 아닙니다. 공식 문서는 Free를 포함한 전 플랜에서 제공되며 로그인하지 않은 사람도 쓸 수 있다고 안내합니다.15

켜는 방법은 두 가지입니다. 최신 정보가 필요한 질문이면 별도 조작 없이 자동으로 검색하기도 합니다.16

직접 켤 수도 있습니다. 대화를 연 뒤 도구 전체 보기에서 Search를 고르고 질문을 입력해 보내면 됩니다.17

더 빠른 길은 슬래시입니다. 입력창에 /를 치고 Search를 고르면 같은 결과가 됩니다.18

검색 결과가 붙었다고 해서 검증이 끝난 것은 아닙니다. 공식 문서 자체가 검색 결과와 인용이 불완전하거나 오래되었거나 틀릴 수 있다고 명시합니다.19

그래서 답변에 달린 출처는 눌러서 원문을 확인하는 편이 안전합니다. 특히 날짜가 걸린 정보라면 원문의 게시일까지 봐야 합니다.

위치가 얽힌 질문에는 한 가지 더 알아 둘 점이 있습니다. IP 주소를 근거로 한 대략적인 위치 정보가 검색 제휴사에 전달될 수 있다고 안내됩니다.20

파일과 이미지를 올려서 시키는 일

파일 업로드는 무료 플랜에서 온전히 열리는 기능이 아닙니다. 공식 FAQ는 파일이나 이미지를 올려 분석·요약·변환하는 기능을 데이터 분석이 포함된 유료 플랜에서 이용할 수 있다고 안내합니다.21

올릴 수 있게 됐다면 시킬 일은 크게 세 갈래입니다.

첫째는 종합입니다. 정성·정량 정보가 섞인 CSV 같은 스프레드시트를 올려 데이터를 이해하고 시각화해 달라고 요청하는 방식입니다.22

둘째는 변환입니다. 문서의 본질을 바꾸지 않으면서 형태만 바꾸는 작업으로 안내됩니다.23 복잡한 연구 논문을 올려 쉬운 요약을 받는 것이 대표적인 예시입니다.24

셋째는 추출입니다. 문서에서 특정 정보만 뽑아내는 작업입니다.25

업로드 전에 한 번 걸러야 할 것도 있습니다. 개인정보보호위원회 조사에서 생성형 AI를 아는 20~60대 성인 중 약 89%가 개인정보 침해 위험을 우려한다고 답했습니다.26

이미지를 만들고 고치는 법

이미지 생성은 등급을 가리지 않습니다. 2026년 9월 기준 공식 문서는 ChatGPT Images 2.0이 모든 등급에서 제공된다고 적고 있습니다.27

다만 생각을 거쳐 만드는 방식은 별개입니다. 같은 문서는 이 기능이 Plus·Pro·Business에서 제공된다고 구분합니다.28

만드는 방법은 원하는 이미지를 말로 설명하는 것입니다. 요청이 복잡하면 생성에 몇 분이 걸릴 수 있다고 안내됩니다.29

가로세로 비율도 지정할 수 있습니다. 비율 선택 도구를 쓰거나 프롬프트에 원하는 비율을 적어 넣으면 됩니다.30

고칠 때는 편집기에서 부분을 선택하고 바꿀 내용을 설명합니다. 다만 선택 영역이 항상 정확하지는 않고 편집이 지정한 범위 밖까지 번질 수 있다고 안내됩니다.31

만든 이미지에는 출처 정보가 함께 담깁니다. 공식 FAQ는 챗GPT 이미지에 C2PA 출처 메타데이터가 포함된다고 밝히고 있습니다.32

이건 서비스의 선의만은 아닙니다. 인공지능 기본법 제31조제2항은 생성형 인공지능 결과물에 그 사실을 표시하도록 사업자에게 의무를 지우고 있습니다.33

음성으로 대화하기 — 플랜별 한도

음성 기능은 말로 묻고 말로 듣는 방식입니다.34 손이 바쁜 상황이나 긴 설명을 들으며 정리할 때 쓰기 좋습니다.

2026년 9월 기준 설정에서 고를 수 있는 방식은 Live·Advanced·Standard 세 가지입니다. Live는 듣기와 말하기를 동시에 처리해 끼어들기가 자연스러운 방식으로 안내됩니다.35

Standard는 말을 먼저 글로 옮긴 뒤 답을 만드는 차례 방식입니다.36 연결이 불안정한 환경에서는 이쪽이 안정적입니다.

한도는 플랜마다 다릅니다. 2026년 9월 기준 공식 문서에 적힌 24시간 기준 한도는 아래와 같습니다.

한 번에 이어갈 수 있는 길이도 정해져 있습니다. 단일 Live 대화는 최대 2시간까지 지속할 수 있습니다.39

시작은 간단합니다. 메시지 입력줄의 음성 아이콘을 누르고 마이크 권한을 허용하면 됩니다.40

받아쓰기만 필요하다면 음성 대화가 아니라 다른 기능입니다. 녹음 한 건을 편집 가능한 텍스트로 바꾸는 용도는 받아쓰기 기능으로 안내됩니다.41

답변 방식을 고정하는 두 가지 — 맞춤 지침과 메모리

매번 “표로 정리해 줘”, “존댓말로 써 줘”를 반복하고 있다면 설정으로 옮길 때입니다.

첫 번째 도구는 맞춤 지침입니다. 답변에 반영했으면 하는 내용을 적어 두면 모든 대화에 즉시 적용됩니다.42

이건 유료 기능이 아닙니다. 공식 문서는 맞춤 지침이 웹·데스크톱·iOS·Android의 모든 플랜에서 제공된다고 안내합니다.43

다만 적을 수 있는 분량은 갈립니다. 2026년 9월 기준 Free와 Go는 1,500자, Plus·Pro·Business·Enterprise·Education은 5,000자까지 저장할 수 있습니다.44

설정 경로는 설정에서 개인 맞춤 설정을 고르는 것입니다.45 지침을 바꿔도 지난 대화에는 소급되지 않고 이후 대화부터 반영됩니다.46

두 번째 도구는 메모리입니다. 설정 > 개인 맞춤 설정 > 메모리에서 켜고 끌 수 있습니다.47

메모리를 쓸 때 오해하기 쉬운 지점이 두 가지 있습니다.

하나는 삭제 범위입니다. 특정 내용을 완전히 지우려면 지난 대화·보관 대화·파일·메모리 요약을 모두 지우고 관련 앱 연결까지 끊어야 한다고 안내됩니다.48

다른 하나는 껐다 켤 때입니다. 메모리를 다시 켜면 채팅 기록에 남아 있는 대화에서 새 메모리를 만들 수 있고, 여기에는 오래된 대화도 포함됩니다.49

특정 대화만 반영되지 않게 하려면 메모리를 끄거나 임시 채팅을 쓰라고 안내되어 있습니다.50

대화 기록 관리 — 검색·보관·삭제·임시 채팅

대화가 쌓이면 찾는 일이 먼저 문제가 됩니다. 왼쪽 사이드바의 돋보기를 누르거나 PC는 ctrl+k, 맥은 cmd+k로 검색창을 엽니다.51

여기서 많이 놀라는 지점이 있습니다. 사이드바에서 옛 대화가 사라지는 건 삭제가 아닙니다.

공식 문서는 목록을 빠르게 유지하려고 오래된 대화를 사이드바 캐시에서 덜어낸다고 설명합니다.52 검색하거나 그 대화를 열면 원본에서 다시 불러옵니다.

정리를 원한다면 보관 기능이 있습니다. 대화 옆 점 세 개 메뉴에서 보관을 고르면 확인 절차 없이 바로 처리됩니다.53

보관한 대화는 설정 > 데이터 제어의 보관된 채팅 관리에서 다시 꺼내거나 지울 수 있습니다.54 사이드바에는 안 보여도 검색에는 계속 잡힙니다.55

삭제는 되돌릴 수 없습니다. 한 번 지운 대화는 화면에서도, API로도, 고객지원을 통해서도 복구되지 않는다고 명시되어 있습니다.56

지운 대화는 검색 색인에서도 함께 빠집니다.57

전체 삭제를 누를 때는 범위를 먼저 확인해야 합니다. 이 작업은 프로젝트 안에 들어 있는 대화까지 포함해 모든 대화에 적용됩니다.58

기록을 아예 남기고 싶지 않은 대화라면 임시 채팅이 답입니다. 임시 채팅은 기록에 표시되지 않고, 메모리를 쓰거나 만들지도 않으며, 모델 학습에도 쓰이지 않습니다.59

시작은 모델 메뉴에서 임시 채팅을 고르는 것입니다.60

반대로 남에게 보여 줘야 할 때는 공유를 씁니다. 읽기 전용 사본 링크를 만들어 보내는 방식입니다.61

내 데이터를 통째로 받아 두려면 설정의 데이터 제어에서 내보내기를 요청합니다.62

이런 설정을 한 번은 직접 확인해 두는 편이 좋습니다. 개인정보보호위원회도 이용자 가이드에서 옵트아웃과 대화 기록 저장·삭제 설정처럼 이용자가 직접 통제할 수 있는 기능을 함께 안내했습니다.63

자주 묻는 질문

챗GPT는 회원가입을 해야 쓸 수 있나요? 지원되는 지역에서는 계정 없이도 시도해 볼 수 있습니다.1 웹 검색도 로그인하지 않은 사람이 쓸 수 있습니다.15 다만 언어 설정처럼 로그인해야 열리는 항목이 따로 있습니다.

챗지피티 화면이 영어로 나오는데 어떻게 바꾸나요? 로그인한 뒤 프로필 아이콘 > 설정 > 일반 > 언어에서 고릅니다.12 로그인하지 않은 상태에서는 언어 설정을 바꿀 수 없어11 브라우저 언어를 바꿔야 합니다.

예전 대화가 사이드바에서 안 보이는데 지워진 건가요? 지워진 것이 아닙니다. 오래된 대화는 사이드바 캐시에서만 덜어내며, 검색하면 원본에서 다시 불러옵니다.52

메모리를 껐다 켜면 예전에 기억한 내용이 사라지나요? 사라지지 않습니다. 다시 켜면 채팅 기록에 남은 오래된 대화에서 새 메모리를 만들 수 있습니다.49 완전히 지우려면 그 내용이 있는 모든 출처를 지워야 합니다.48
